Former soccer star Pollen Ndlanya was in high spirits when he launched his first off season football competition - the Pollen Festive Games (PFG) 2008 - which started at the Saints Sports Ground in Daveyton Extension yesterday.

Ndlanya, popularly known as "Trompies" also committed himself to helping uplift soccer the standard of the game in and around the Ekurhuleni Metroplitan area in preparation for the Fifa 2010 World Soccer and beyond.

"As a role model and a soccer lover, I want to help train and produce home-bred footballers who will be ready to represent us during the forthcoming 2010 World Cup. I want to produce soccer stars with skills to match or even surpass those of the likes of Jabu Mahlangu and Skappie Malatji," Ndlanya said.

In one of the tournament's opening games, a disciplined and supercharged Arsenal FC roasted a listless International FC 3-0 after a goalless first half. The tournament will continue until after Christmas.

The final will be played at the Marivate Park Sports Ground.
