The ANC is abandoning pending court actions and focusing its resources on the "disaster" it faces in Western Cape, general secretary Gwede Mantashe said yesterday.

He said the party was withdrawing its constitutional court action over exclusion from by-elections last week and its appeal against the name of the Congress of the People.

The NEC would send in senior cadres to "strengthen" the leadership and " rescue what little was left and build on it".

Mantashe said the NEC also discussed Zimbabwe.

He said "the time for hoping for change must come to an end. We call on the political leaders in Zimbabwe to stop the infighting and put the people first." - Sapa
