Reinvigorated Free State Stars showed poise when they whipped Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 in an Absa Premiership match at Charles Mopeli Stadium yesterday.

The defeat underlined Amakhosi's downward spiral, after they failed to impress in Sunday's 3-3 draw against top flight first-timers Bay United.

Tebello Mofokeng opened the scoring for Ea lla Koto in the 16th minute. It was just reward for Stars' early dominance.

It took the home side 10 minutes to increase their lead through Prince Olomu who connected with a free kick awarded after Valery Nahayo fouled Mofokeng.

There was also a surprise in KwaZulu-Natal when Thanda Royal Zulu beat Moroka Swallows 4-2 in an exciting match at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammersdale. The Birds broke the ice through the in-form David Radebe in the opening seconds - probably the quickest goal scored so far this season.

Amabhubesi drew level through Clement Mazibuko in the 14th minute, but Mark Haskins restored Swallows' lead in the 28th minute.

Mazibuko equalised for Thanda four minutes into the second half, and Bernard Parker scored from the penalty spot in the 66th minute after Lefa Tsutsulupa was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Nkosinathi Nhleko netted Thanda's fourth in the 85th minute.

In North West, Platinum Stars drew 1-1 with Ajax Cape Town at Mafikeng Stadium.

Dingaan Masanabo scored for the hosts in the 60th minute, while Joseph Masel replied for Ajax in the 78th.

Ajax defender Clayton Daniels was sent off, as was Michael Khaile of Stars.
