Plastic bags used as toilets

Disgruntled residents of two sections of GaKgapane township near Modjadjiskloof say they have to use plastic bags when they relieve themselves.

They claim their toilets can't flush because of a shortage of water. The residents of Loss my Cherry and Masenkeng sections said they now fear being infected with cholera.

They said the two sections have been without a proper water supply system for the past five years.

Residents blamed the Letaba municipality for failing to upgrade their water reticulation system.

They said they used to buy water from other sections of the township for R10 for a number of containers. They also hired vehicles to fetch water at R50 a load.

Letaba municipality spokesman Vyida Rakubu said the problem is caused by low pressure in the pipes which causes the water not to reach certain sections of the township.
