While thousands of people prepare to celebrate Christmas next week, a thought should be spared for the unemployed and destitute masses.

While thousands of people prepare to celebrate Christmas next week, a thought should be spared for the unemployed and destitute masses.

While many will be indulging themselves in festive season revelry and exchanging gifts with their loved ones, poverty-stricken families will only be praying to have food and shelter.

The same goes for thousands of workers whose future is bleak after reports that some companies are folding as a result of a declining economy and employees are facing retrenchments.

For those who are more fortunate, this is a time to count one's blessings and help the poor.

Remember, it is a time of goodwill.
