Siphiwe Khumalo, who died at the Vaal University of Technology last week, will be buried at Lenasia Cemetery today.

The former South African national under-23 striker was the son of former Orlando Pirates striker Mandla "Metro Blitz" Sithole.

He was found dead with his girlfriend at the university's students' residence.

He was hanging from a towel at the Maruba students' residence.

Nonhlanhla Kunene, 23, was sprawled on the floor with a stab wound.

Inspector Jinnie Steyn said one of the students smelt a stench coming from the room and informed a security guard.

"The room was locked and the guard had to break down the door to gain access," she said.

Steyn said the bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition. Police suspect Khumalo, pictured, had committed suicide.

It is believed the two died on the weekend of December 7, three days before their bodies were found.

Khumalo had just completed a diploma in sports management and was to graduate next month.

At the time of his death, he was playing for the university in the Vodacom League.

The service will be at 662A Legakabe Street, Zone 7 Meadowlands, at 8am.

The cortege leaves for the cemetery at 10am.
