Da Babes is made up of Nonhlanhla Masinga, Nokubonga Shezi, Zama Zikalala, Thenjiwe Ndelu, Zama Jali and Zenitha Ngcongwane.
Umngan'wethu is an exciting album that will light up the dance floor this festive season. It is a compelling fusion of Durban kwaito and house music.
"We have tried to come up with something fresh and vibey at the same time," says Shezi. "We have mixed various styles but the album is dominated by a dance sound.
"We have included both kwaito and house tracks for those who love dancing."
The group's music is composed by themselves with the help of producers Mdu Ngcobo and Fundile Mdingi.
"We discuss our songs as the group with the producers," Ngcongwane says.
Ngcongwane says their music speaks to the youth and takes a look at the challenges of life.
"We sing about about everyday problems," she says. "Our music appeals to both young and old.
"The title track, Mngan'wethu, is about a girl who does not want to listen. We try to warn people through our music."
The six girls had planned to earn a living as dancers but that changed early this year when they decided to form a group.
The six girls met last year during the Touch Africa Babes Competition. Twelve who went into the final were selected and became The Touch Africa Babes.
Despite the challenges of the industry, the young and ambitious group hopes to last longer in the industry.
