Defence the key for Bay United

Bay United are gradually finding their feet but need to work on their defence ahead of their Absa Premiership game against SuperSport United at the EPRU Stadium tonight.

The Eastern Cape outfit have not lost in the past two games under coach Khabonina Zondo, but they seem to lose concentration as the game progresses.

Captain and goalkeeper Arthur Baartman admitted that their backline had the tendency to lose focus and that could have an adverse effect on their play.

"We've been working on our defence and hopefully the guys will play more as a unit. We're meeting the defending champions who are more dangerous than most of the teams in the league. We need to be on our toes all the time.

"Letladi [Madubanya] and Elias [Pelembe] are major problems, we need to guard against them," he said.

But Umlilo's Paulus Shipanga, Siyabulela Songwiqi, Jermain Francis and Gareth Ncaca could see their side registering a win against the dangerous United.

United's defender David Kannemeyer said: "Most important for us is to win the two remaining games of the year, against United and Santos, to be in a good position in the new year."

In another league game Santos welcome AmaZulu at the Athlone Stadium tonight, also at 7.30. A 2-1 win against Chiefs must have bolstered The People's Team's morale.

But they are up against a difficult proposition in the coastal side that has won two games in a row against Wits (3-2) and Golden Arrows (2-0).
