Cops want public to report the robber without an ear

Ntwaagae Seleka

It has been two weeks now that a robber's ear has been kept as a court exhibit by the Westonaria police - while they search for the owner of the organ.

The robber gained entry into a house, waking up its owner, a 50-year-old woman.

Police spokesman Constable Audrey Sefara said the woman confronted the robber and a fierce struggle took place.

"She fought him off when he attempted to rape her - by biting off his ear - but he escaped with her valuables, valued at over R2000, leaving his ripped-off ear behind.

"The woman was stabbed twice, on her left arm and shoulder. She retaliated and managed to overpower the suspect," said Sefara.

The constable said the man's ear was completely bitten off.

It is being kept at police forensic laboratories and will be used as DNA evidence once the suspect is arrested.

The bloody ear was discovered inside the house by the police, who were summoned after the robber had run off.

"We are appealing to anyone with information to contact us.

"A likely suspect would be anyone who can't explain why his ear is missing - or who arrives at a medical centre to be treated," said Sefara.
