Sara gets R1million donation

Outspoken cultural activist Freddy Nyathela, who headed a Newtown, Johannesburg, youth training organisation's war of words with the National Lottery distribution board, has seen his battle have a happy ending.

The dispute between the president of the South African Roadies Association (Sara), which trains young people in live events management, was about an application the organisation made to the National Lottery distribution board for funding.

The board had initially turned down the application, citing a lack of skills on the part of the youth organisation to administer donor funds as a reason.

Nyathela disputed this and was backed by accountants who confirmed that Sara's books were in order.

On reconsideration the board has given the organisation the money it had initially applied for, which is more than R1million.
