The general secretary of the SA Football Players Union (Safpu), Tebogo Mophaleng, reckons hosting the Federations of International Football Players Union (FIFPro) Africa's division congress will strengthen their fight for players' rights on the continent.
The 11-year-old Safpu will host the union in June next year.
FIFPro Africa's member states took a decision to host the convention in South Africa at the three-day world congress in Chile recently.
"We will host delegates from Egypt and Cameroon who are other affiliates of FIFPro from Africa," explained Mophaleng yesterday.
"Ivory Coast and Congo, who will attend as observers, are expected to officially join as members at the congress. It is good for African countries to form a common goal in their fight for player rights on the continent. It is also good that officials from FIFPro will be here.
"There were many resolutions that were made in Chile which will benefit the players. We will implement them and also engage all the stakeholders to this effect."
Mophaleng, a former Witbank Black Aces and Jomo Cosmos player, was accompanied by his deputy Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe and honorary member Chris Fortuin to the Chile congress attended by 46 member-countries.
The gathering focused on the professionalism of the organisation and finding solutions to undesirable developments in football.
Other issues that were discussed included racism, the excessive commercialisation of the sport, equal legal status for every professional footballer, opposition to the exploitation of minors and the unbridled greed of agents, out of competition doping tests and professional training or studying as preparation for a career outisde soccer.
