Motlanthe has erred over Pikoli

The usually sober and rational President Kgalema Motlanthe has acted irrationally by dismissing Vusi Pikoli contrary to clear recommendations by the Ginwala commission.

The usually sober and rational President Kgalema Motlanthe has acted irrationally by dismissing Vusi Pikoli contrary to clear recommendations by the Ginwala commission.

Pikoli was found to be fit and competent in performing his duties, except that he neglected some key aspects of national security, including the vetting of "security companies", in searching the Union Buildings and Jacob Zuma's houses.

He also blundered by not acting on the Browse Report because the NPA does not have a mandate to gather intelligence.

His dismissal is part of the broader agenda to stop the NPA from prosecuting Zuma. NPA heads have all been victims of verbal attacks by Zuma's supporters.

Motlanthe, despite being a rational leader, is just a lame duck president who dances to the tune of Zuma's faction.

Early next year a new NPA head will be employed, probably Ngoako Ramatlhodi, as Ace Magashule indicated. Pikoli's removal is part of replacing Thabo Mbeki's competent people by those who will die for Msholozi even if it means compromising the NPA's integrity.

Firing Pikoli, attacking the judiciary and police action in Tony Yengeni's trial are indicative that the ANC is taking the Zimbabwe route. Why must I vote for the ANC?
