Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Esrom Nyandoro says things won't fall apart while he is sidelined by a broken hand
Nyandoro watched from the stands as his team went down 0-1 to Moroka Swallows on Sunday, ending their hopes of winning their remaining four matches for the year.
Nyandoro, the Downs' captain, fractured two of the bones in his left hand while trying to break his fall last Thursday at training, and he now has screws inserted to straighten the bones.
He will be out for six weeks, though he hopes to recover in time to face Kaizer Chiefs on January 11.
Nyandoro joins Mbulelo Mabizela, Sibusiso Zuma and Manqoba Ngwenya in the sick bay.
The midfielder will miss his team's next three matches - against Platinum Stars this weekend, Maritzburg United at home and Ajax Cape Town away.
"I will be okay, but in my absence there are a lot of players capable of doing the job," said Nyandoro.
"Sundowns have won matches without me before and they still can.
"There might have been problems on Sunday but they will come right,"
While Jorge Acuna, much like Nyandoro, is hard working, precise and authoritative in the middle of the park, Nyandoro's long-range shots will be sorely missed.
"The guys tried their best but nothing was going well for us. Realistically speaking, in the three games we are still left with, we can get six or seven points," said Nyandoro.
He feels that the former champions still have a shot at the league title.
"We have already dropped a lot of points, but I know we can make up for it. The season has been very tight and has taken its toll on everyone, including the other teams," he said.
