The case has been postponed a staggering 48 times since 2000 - for no apparent reason.

In the meantime the woman has had to suffer the ordeal of harrowing flashbacks each time she sees the suspects, who live a few blocks from her home.

The two suspects are out on R1000 bail each.

Our Constitution guarantees individuals the inalienable right to a fair, cost-effective and speedy trial - something that to date has clearly been ignored by the magistrate concerned.

When the wheels of justice grind so slowly it is not only the case that is compromised but also the integrity of the country's justice system.

The Ministry of Justice must urgently intervene and act against those responsible for this miscarriage of justice.
