Joining the ranks of other patriotic art practitioners, local comedians have come together to perform for a common and charitable cause.

The festival, which takes place at the Market Theatre again this year, started on Wednesday and will run until December 14.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm. On Sunday the shows starts at 3pm.

Performances will be flighted on DStv, through the Just Because: The Comedy Festival titled Laughs For Charity.

It is an event that will enable the comedians to give back to the community that supports them.

The objective is to bring down the curtain on local comedy for this year with an event that will raise money for the less privileged in society during the festive season.

Trevor Noah, Loyiso Gola, Kagiso Lediga, Eugene Khoza and David Kibuuka form part of the Just Because Comedy Festival.

To all intents and purposes it will be an extravaganza of live stand-up comedy involving an interesting spread of comedians.

There will also be performances by special guest comedians such as John Vlismas, Joey Rasdien, Mel Miller, Roni Modimola, Darren Maule, Kedibone Mulaudzi, Al Prodgers, Tshepo Mogale and Ntosh Madlingozi.

A line-up for each night will be posted on the following websites: www.podiumentertainment.co.za, www.computicket.co.zaand www.markettheatre.co.za.

Ticket prices are: Tuesday R50; Wednesday, Thursday and and Sunday R80; Friday and Saturday R120. Tickets are sold online or through Computicket and the Market Theatre.
