Charrit Mukondeleli has taken Golden Gloves' offer to fight Hekkie Budler for the ABU junior flyweight belt so serious that this fighter from Limpopo has cancelled Christmas festivities.
"No festivities for me. My armpits will be wet from sweat," declared Mukondeleli yesterday before describing the offer as his second last opportunity to win silverware.
His trainer Benny Pailman from Westside Boxing Academy in Westbury, Johannesburg, said they will take off Christmas Day only.
"This is a do or die for Charrit. He has all the required ammunition to burst Budler's bubble. But it's up to him. I will give him all the moral support he needs," said Pailman.
Mukondeleli shared Pailman's sentiments, saying "Budler's bubble will burst, come February 14".
Budler, 20, who is under trainer Colin Nathan, is yet to lose after eight wins in as many fights while Mukondeleli has an uninspiring record of seven wins and six losses, of which three were via the short route.
Mukondeleli said he had experience, something which was very important in this fight game.
"You must back it up with superior conditioning and that is exactly what I am doing," he said in his parting shot.
On September 1 2006 Mukondeleli was stopped by Muvhuso Nedzanani in 11 rounds in their fight for the national junior flyweight belt. Three months later he was knocked out in one round by Phumzile Matyhila.
But Mukondeleli, 27, who hails from Makhado, in Limpopo, gave a spirited performance on November 23 last year and outpointed Khanyakude Mukansi over six rounds.
He lost to Sizwe Sinyabi two months ago.
