The residents of Madadeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal yesterday discovered a foetus dumped in an open field used as a kids' playground.
It is believed it was dumped after an illegal abortion. It was found stuffed into a bucket turned upside down next to a local tavern.
Police spokesman Shooz Magudulela confirmed the gruesome find.
"No arrests have been made and we are investigating a case of concealment of birth."
He urged anyone with information to contact 034-329-6622.
l A teenager has been arrested after a 36-year-old woman from Glencoe was raped.
Magudulela said the victim was attacked at her home on Sunday night.
