A petrol attendant and a customer at a garage in Mahwelereng, Limpopo, were allegedly shot at by a member of the Pretoria VIP unit.

Petrol attendant Petrus Khazamula Vuma, 54, and customer Matome Seanley Mogomela, 31, were both sustained gunshots to their chests on Friday, allegedly by VIP unit member Jacob Kheila Makgakge.

He was charged with three counts of attempted murder.

He first shot another man who had allegedly tried to highjack him earlier that day.

Police spokesman Captain Sebotsaro Motadi said Makgakge allegedly produced his service pistol and chased a group of alleged hijackers who ran in the direction of the garage.

"Daniel Thema Phahladira was shot in the leg during the chase while the others apparently managed to run away.

"Makgakge then started shooting at them but the bullets went astray and hit the petrol attendant and customer in their chests," said Motadi.

Both Mogomela and Vuma are fighting for their lives at Mahwelereng Hospital.

Makgakge appeared in the Mahwelereng magistrate's court on Friday and was remanded in custody.
