School teacher and cricket coach Annah Molokele has died of throat cancer aged 60.
Molokele, of 4313 Zone 4, Pimville, Soweto, died last Thursday. She was born on June 26 1948 in Tucker Street, Sophiatown.
Molokele started her primary education in Meadowlands and completed matric at Meadowlands High School under Caesar Simelela.
She completed her Primary Teachers Diploma at Jabulani Teachers Training College in 1977 and started teaching at Tsogang Primary School in Meadowlands as a mathematics specialist in the intermediate phase.
Molokele was very prominent in the school's girl guides programme.
She was this week described as an allrounder by friends in the teaching and sporting fraternity.
Nkele Mokalaboni, a close friend, colleague and fellow cricketer, described Molokele as a "great motivator".
The energetic Molokele joined the South African Cricket Union under Ali Bacher as an under-21 development coach.
She became a level three coach who later trained as a score keeper in the Benson and Hedges series at the Wanderers Club in the 1980s. Molokele, together with a group of eight female teachers, started SA Mini Cricket development classes for schoolchildren in Soweto and surrounding areas.
Some of their products from these developmental classes are prominent bowlers Oupa Mathe and Trevor Letlape.
Other teachers who helped Molokele in cricket development are Sarah Nkadimeng, Desire Tseladimmitlwa, Oupa Mailula, Rusty Malebye, Papi Monate, Zenzele Masodi, Joshua Lekgoa and the late Kedi Tshoma.
"She helped the community in Pimville with their problems. Many of us went to her with all kinds of personal problems," said neighbour Jubi Mlambo.
Her colleague at Tsogang Primary School, Helen Pilane, said Molokele was an allrounder who helped needy children in her community.
Molokele's sister, Mampe Letsoalo, said she was always collecting old clothes and toys from family members. These Molokele donated to the needy.
Molokele is survived by her son Modise, grandchild Khumo and sister Mampe.
She will be buried tomorrow at Roodepoort Cemetery. The funeral service will be held at St Peter Claver Church in Zone 7 Pimville from 7am.
