KwaZulu-Natal finance and economic development MEC Zweli Mkhize has praised small businesses for making a positive contribution to the growth of the economy in the province.
He said research had shown that small businesses were playing a vital role in the stabilisation of the country's economy. He said they were also helping to fight poverty through job creation.
Mkhize said there were many people who were able to find meaningful and gainful employment through small business .
"It is encouraging to see people wanting to stand up and do things for themselves as you have done," he said.
Mkhize paid a visit to three cooperatives, Khanyanjalo, Maluju and Mbusomusha.
