Gautrain's first rail cars are on a long journey to Gauteng from Durban.

Gautrain's first rail cars are on a long journey to Gauteng from Durban.

Two other completed rail cars are expected to arrive in the Durban harbour from England on Monday next week. A total of 15 will eventually be shipped to South Africa.

Their destination is Midrand, where they will undergo a quality and safety test on the Gautrain test track.

Gautrain spokesman Barbara Jansen said: "Motorists are advised to be on the lookout for the abnormal load and should exercise caution and patience at all times."

Gautrain, which will consist of 24 train sets of four cars each, is being built in Derby, England.

The sleek train will consist of a total of 96 cars, of which 15 are being built in England. The components of the remaining 81 will be flat-packed and shipped to South Africa for local assembly. - Sowetan Reporter
