Downs want to end year on high

Mamelodi Sundowns are aiming to rake up all the points on offer in their remaining four matches before the end of the year.

Their mission starts with the tricky Moroka Swallows on Sunday at 3.30pm at Super Stadium. Tickets will be sold at the venue.

Downs' communications manager Mahlatse Mphahlele said the good news for the club is that coach Henry Michel is getting to know his players better , and his command of the English language has improved.

The Frenchman has wryly admitted his limitations where the Queen's language is concerned, with only striker Katlego Mphela, of all 30 Downs players, conversant in Michel's native French.

Language issues aside, Mphahlele said the players should be refreshed, rejuvenated and raring to go since they had been given a break after the Pirates match.

Downs still have pressing assignments - against Platinum Stars, Maritzburg United and Ajax Cape Town - before the end of the year. The results of these matches should serve as a barometer for the second part of the season.

"We would like to be sitting pretty when we go to the break. We have not been impressed with ourselves for dropping four points in the last two matches, and since all but one of these matches will be played at home, we really ought to make sure we do not drop any of them," said Mphahlele.

Downs, who have 16 points, are only one ahead of The Dube Birds and Sunday's match can go either way.
