KwaZulu-Natal - the country's tourism Mecca - will yet again experience a bumper festive season and an influx of visitors, said the province's arts, culture and tourism MEC Weziwe Thusi.

Thusi told delegates at a conference in Durban that one of the key aspects to the festive tourism plan was "the promotion of a safety and security plan. This plan has been renamed the Safety and Awareness Plan and has identified certain interventions that are needed".

The plan also includes measures to prevent tourists from getting lost and then end up venturing into the province's crime hot spots.

Tourism KwaZulu-Natal was working with all the district municipalities to implement critical aspects of this initiative, Thusi added.
