President Kgalema Motlanthe has declared three days of national mourning following the death of former political activist Dr Nthato Motlana.
Motlana died on Monday after a long battle with prostate cancer. Motlanthe said in a statement that national flags at national, provincial and diplomatic offices abroad would fly at half mast in honour of Motlana.
Meanwhile, a memorial service for Motlana will be held at the Regina Mundi Church in Soweto, tomorrow. It will start at 1pm.
Former president Nelson Mandela was among the first people to arrive at Motlana's Muldersdrift, West Rand, home to offer condolences after the news broke that his former comrade had died.
Motlana and Mandela were arrested together in 1952 for organising the Defiance Campaign.
After attaining freedom in 1994 Motlana became a businessman, leading black economic empowerment. He will be buried on Saturday.
