Jewels, dollars and policies

Convicted husband killer Najwa Petersen comes from a family known as the"diamonds anddollars people".

The Mail and Guardian reported earlier this year that "The Dirk [Najwa Petersen's maiden name] family was known as thediamond and dollars people. everybody on the Cape Flats knows that there's 'klippies' [gems] wherever theirfamily is involved. Because there's big money involved, people are so scared".

Najwa worked for her family'sbusiness, Dirk Fruit, earning R40000 a month when she murdered Taliep, her third husband.

Taliep apparently nursed Najwa through a number of depressive episodes and incidents where she would collapse and fall down the stairs.

Her family are said to own expensive properties in Namibia.

In her testimony Najwa claimed that the people who killed Taliep wanted to rob them of $300000 which was in the house.

Taliep's life insurance policy of R5,3million, of which his nine-year-old daughter Zainub was the beneficiary, was recently paid into Najwa's Namibian bank account, because Zainub was too young to open a bank account.
