Tests conducted on the water samples taken from the Limpopo River near Musina have proved positive.
This latest development has again raised fears of the dreaded cholera disease rearing its ugly head in Limpopo.
Spokesman for the provincial department of health and social development, Phuti Seloba, confirmed yesterday that test results done on water from the river that separates Zimbabwe and South Africa have come back positive.
Seloba said they were still awaiting the results of other samples taken from the water drawn from the nearby Nwanedi River.
"The latest development has posed a serious threat to the lives of our people," said Seloba.
He said the department would do everything in its power to ensure that the disease was brought under control.
Seloba said they had treated 399 patients suffering from cholera since November 15. Late yesterday, another 101 patients were admitted to various hospitals in the province. The majority come from the Madimbo area.
The death toll as a result of the disease still stands at six - two of them are South Africans and the rest Zimbabweans.
