Angry residents have petrol-bombed the home of man who was taking too long to fix the cracks in their homes.
Alfred Thabethe's house, with the repair materials inside it, was burnt and 12 other homes were destroyed in Mapela, Mokopane, on Sunday night. The residents, whose homes were cracked by mining activity, believed that Thabethe was keeping the building materials for himself. One resident said yesterday that they suspected that Thabethe, who had won the repair tender from Pieprust Platinum, was selling some of the materials .
Forty-eight people were arrested and will appear in court soon on charges of arson, theft, malicious damage to property and public violence, police said.
