Any person arrested on suspicion of having committed a crime should be allowed to stand trial in a court of law and be either convicted or acquitted. Until this process is completed that person will remain innocent.

We are appalled by the gruesome killing of a suspected criminal who was crucified shortly after being granted bail by a magistrate in Mpumalanga last week.

Although he was dubbed the most dangerous criminal in the Marite, Hazyview area, Tshwarelo Mashego did not deserve this kind of brutality.

Instead of allowing justice to take its course, residents nailed him to a cross and tossed his body into a dam.

This barbaric act should be condemned in the strongest terms.
