It has been a long, arduous road for our national women's soccer team, Banyana Banyana, to the 2008 African Women's Championship in Equatorial Guinea.

The daunting odds that shaped the squad have given way to adulation and glory. No wonder Banyana have taken the championships by storm and stunned everyone back home with their unforeseen tsunami-style resurrection.

Tomorrow they face Equatorial Guinea in a final as definite underdogs.

Inspired by coach August Makalakalane, Banyana scored an impressive 3-0 over Cameroon to advance to the final.

We will keep our fingers crossed for Banyana to conquer Africa, a feat that eluded them in 2000.
