Acting Judge Chris Eksteen gave the 25-year-old Mamelodi man life imprisonment on each of four rape charges. Nkadimeng was also sentenced to a total of 37 years imprisonment on a further six charges of robbery, two of attempted rape and one of assault.
He said Nkadimeng terrorised women in Mamelodi and Eersterust for three months, between 2005 and 2006. He was only caught after police launched a manhunt for him following a public outcry.
"The rape of women is prevalent in this country. Women are entitled to protection and to be treated with dignity," said Eksteen.
He said Nkadimeng had shown no remorse and denied any involvement in the crimes despite overwhelming evidence against him.
Nkadimeng presented himself to vulnerable young women looking for work as a helpful, considerate person. Instead, he lied to them and "led them down the garden path" into the veld.
He then choked his victims until they passed out, raped them and robbed them of their personal possessions. They were left lying naked and unconscious.
"You terrorised the women, who had no choice but to walk in those lonely areas unprotected, looking for employment in an attempt to create an honest life for them and their dependants," Eksteen said. - Sapa
