Say no to women and children abuse

As the world moves into the 16 Days of Activism Campaign we have to ask ourselves what we are doing to help fight the abuse of women and children.

As South Africans we have an obligation to protect our women and children.

The focus of African women activists on gender violence and on women's rights remains disconcerting.

Human rights cannot be universal without human rights for women. This campaign offers us an opportunity to promote women's rights in the quest to end gender inequality and create a world free from violence, discrimination and injustice.

Over the past 60 years women have launched ground-breaking global and local efforts to challenge gender inequality and feminist approaches to human rights are being developed and used around the world.

Violence against women is traumatic to the body, mind, and spirit and prevents women from being fully active participants at home and in the world.

This year's 16 days campaign emphasises the connection between women's rights, violence against women and women's health, and the detrimental effect that violence has on the wellbeing of the world as a whole.

Say no to women and children abuse.
