Branco Sports Production will stage its last tournament of the year next Friday night at the Carousel Casino near Hammanskraal, North West.
This could probably be the province's biggest tournament here this year. It will feature World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) title eliminators.
Topping the bill will be the WBC super flyweight title eliminator between that organisation's International titleholder, Evans Mbamba, and number one contender Devid Lookmahanak from Thailand.
The main undercard will be the clash for the IBF's vacant number two spot in the lightweight division. It will be between Ranee Ganoy and Fernando Angulo.
Ali Funeka occupies the number one spot. Promoter Gary Shaw has confirmed that Funeka will challenge IBF, WBC and WBA champion Nate Campbell in the US on February 14.
So the winner between Ganoy and Angulo will face the victor between Funeka and Campbell.
Back to the main fight, Lookmahanak is the former WBC Asian Boxing Council champion with 18 wins (9 KOs) and two losses. He is ranked sixth.
Mbamba, the lefty from Ekurhuleni who is trained by Nick Durandt, holds the WBC International belt. Mbamba is undefeated after 15 fights with seven stoppages. He is ranked 15th by the WBC.
The winner of the title eliminator fight between Mbamba and Lookmahanak will challenge Vic Darchinyan, the Australian who ended the career of Mzukisi Sikali. Darchinyan holds the WBC, World Boxing Association and IBF belts.
The WBC title eliminator is the second to be staged here by Milenkovic. The first was in 2004 between Mzonke Fana and Randy Suico. Fana outpointed the Filipino and earned the right to challenge Marco Antonio Barrera, who stopped Fana in two rounds in 2005.
Branco Sports' Branco Milenkovic and Jacob Matlata co-promoted the Barrera-Fana fight with Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions in the US.
Matlala said: "It's been a good year for us as well as our fighters. Our hard work will pay early next year. Vusi Malinga, Malcolm Klassen, Jeffrey Mathebula and Silence Mabuza should be crowned world champion before March next year.
"These fighters have been confirmed as mandatory challengers to WBC and IBF titles."
