Inconsistent Birds, Usuthu in tussle

If there is a word to describe AmaZulu and Moroka Swallows' performances in the Absa Premiership so far this season, it would be "inconsistent".

The two teams, who boast a rich history in South African football, have been given an opportunity to redeem themselves against each other tonight. Their Absa Premiership meeting takes place at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban, kicking off at 7.30.

Usuthu are smarting from a 0-2 loss to defending champs SuperSport United in Atteridgeville. The Birds shared the spoils with Platinum Stars aftera scoreless draw in Orlando.

Swallows coach Julio Leal should be encouraged, though, by the fact that he is taking a full-strength squad to Chatsworth.

AmaZulu, on the other hand, will still be without influential skipper Belux Kasonga.

Though he has recovered from a knee injury, Usuthu have decided not to rush the Congolese defender back. Kasonga is adamant AmaZulu will prevail against Swallows without him.

The hosts have quality defenders who should frustrate the likes of Sandile Ndlovu, David Radebe and Elton Morelato. Their rearguard will be led by Pere Ariweriyai.

Clive Barker, Usuthu's mentor, is also spoilt for choice upfront after the return from injury of Myron Shongwe to partner Dumisani Ngwenya. But Swallows have a gem in Lefa Tsutsulupa who has brought solidity to the midfield.

Usuthu mighty be playing at home, but Swallows appear to have enough in their arsenal to triumph tonight. The match will be televised live on SuperSport Blitz.

l Maritzburg United and Bay United meet at Woodburn Stadium in Pietermaritzburg today at 3.30pm in a match that could go either way.
