It's official. The Christmas spirit has reached dealership floors in a big way.

This week we have more specials and our dealer networking is growing by leaps and bounds, which means that many more deals will be coming your way.

And, though passenger car sales have slumped, commercial vehicles are doing well.

Businesses that require a compact workhorse able to carry plenty of cargo while using less fuel and being reliable rave about the Renault Kangoo.

If you require such a vehicle, Renault Pietermaritzburg has a special on the new Renault Kangoo Express 1,5 dCi. The listed price is R141500 but this establishment has stock reduced to R124990.

While still on workhorses, the double-cab remains an unbeatable all-rounder and Mitsubishi Midrand has some great specials in the Mitsubishi Triton range.

Back to passenger cars - the Audi A3 has just been refreshed for the new year and it's among the top choices for a premium hatch.

I found a fresh, pre-owned 2007 model 2,0 FSI sportback with only 30000km on its clock looking for a new home at Nissan Woodmead.

The asking price was originally R210000 but on enquiry the consultant dropped the price to a sweet R199 995. Take this article along with you as back-up.

A big Christmas clearance sale has been announced at McCarthy Volkswagen Constantia in the Roodepoort area.

Watch out for many more festive season specials that are being flighted - we'll keep you posted.

This week's tip is that when buying a vehicle, remember that while the rand continues to slobber against major currencies, the cost of replacement parts is more than likely to increase as the price that car makers pay to original equipment manufacturers is also dependant on the performance of the exchange rates.

Locally manufactured cars will obviously have better protection against this constant fluctuation.

So, if you can, buy local.
