KwaZulu-Natal ANC veterans have pledged their undying support for their party despite recent political developments.
At their historical elective conference in Durban on Saturday, the ANC Veterans League (ANCVL) said they stood for a "united" ANC.
The ANCVL is for members aged 40 to 60 and above who have an unbroken service record in the party.
The ANCWL will have voting rights at all future ANC national conferences similar to the women's and youth league.
There was jubilation as friends met and recalled their struggle in the old days. They sang liberation songs to affirm their loyalty to the party.
Newly elected ANCVL provincial secretary Teresa Mthembu said they were very proud that their importance and contribution to the struggle was finally being "recognised and acknowledged".
"We will always be ready for all party calls," Mthembu said. "We are happy that we will now be able to shape our politics. We have a rich history that must be maintained and protected."
Addressing the veterans, deputy provincial chairman Willies Mchunu said support by the elders further strengthened the view that the "ANC has a proud history and loyal data-base".
He criticised Mosiuoa Lekota's Congress of the People and other breakaway parties.
