Organisers of the Godfrey Moloi Goodwill Games have decided to give away groceries to destitute families over the festive period.

Tournament director Brian "Zero" Johnson junior said his committee was concerned about the escalating unemployment in the country and had decided to assist struggling families with some food parcels or groceries for Christmas.

Johnson said they have asked teams that will be taking part in this year's tournament to each adopt a needy family and give organisers the details.

"As organisers of these games, we need to plough back to the community for the support they have been giving this tournament since it was established in 1979 by the late Godfrey "Louis Luyt" Moloi.

"We will buy and send groceries to families that have been adopted by teams that will be taking part in the tournament.

"It does not matter where the teams or families are situated, we will deliver the groceries before or during the tournament," he said.

The launch of the yearly tournament take place on on December 6. It takes place from December 16-31.

Johnson said they were expecting 32 teams from all over the country to participate.

The teams will be divided into four groups of eight and will play in a round robin system in the first round.

The second round will be a knockout stage in which the two leading teams from each group will make it through to the final.
