Discerning music lovers are in for a lovely experience of mature musical sounds at the annual Mapungubwe Music Festival.
The festival, which will take place at the Limpopo Cricket Grounds in Polokwane on December 13, has proven to be a crowd-puller. The brainchild of the Limpopo government's sport, arts and culture department will again spoil jazz fans with the finest musicians.
The line-up boasts highpowered performers Jeff Maluleke, Don Laka, Lira, Sello Galane, Judith Sephuma, Palesa, Gloria Bosman, Sipho Mabuse, Geoff Mapaya, Oupa Boy Boy Makhubele, Makhadzi, Herman Fox Manganye, Kunle Ayo and Thomas Chauke, among others.
Jazz aficionados can look forward to the fine stagecraft of piano maestro, composer, producer, arranger and label owner Laka. Having founded new music styles, kwaito and kwai-jazz, his performances are not to be missed.
He has produced multiplatinum winners and composed and arranged for nearly all the well-known and respected musos in the country. His talent has been confirmed by the countless awards he has accumulated over more than three decades.
A festival is never complete without the coarse but melodious voice of Lira. This young, dynamic multi-award winner will treat fans to a fine selection of sounds from her debut album, which is selling internationally. Her best hit, Feel Good, has made waves on the soundtrack of Girlfriends, a popular US sitcom.
This, the fifth year of the colourful festival, will see the introduction of Kiba Music specialist Galane.
The respected cultural ambassador will display what has made him unforgettable among the top bearers of our national flag.
Galane will show the audience how to appreciate the sound of percussion.
