Chippa meets his match and has to cough up in court

Soccer legend Philemon Masinga, pictured, has finally agreed to do the right thing - pay regular maintenance for his two children.

But this was not before his former wife Carol Puleng dragged him to the Johannesburg family court last week.

Sowetan understands that Puleng and the former Bafana Bafana player had been fighting over his monthly payment towards supporting their children.

But once in front of a maintenance officer the former Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns striker put up no resistance, a source told us.

"Apart from paying maintenance he has also agreed to put both children on medical aid," added the source.

Though the couple divorced, Puleng still seems to hold some romantic sympathy for the footie and said on Friday: "He is a responsible man. The only reason I took him to court was so that we could have a signed agreement.

"He is not running away. I just wanted him to commit himself in writing," she said.

Chippa, as he is fondly known, is well-known for being discreet about his private life. He confirmed signing a maintenance agreement with his estranged wife.

The one-time Leeds United player, who is serving as an ambassador for the 2010 Soccer World Cup local organising committee, moved abroad when the world football governing body Fifa lifted the international football ban on South Africa in 1992.
