The days of travelling long distances to access government and social services is now a thing of the past for the 95000 people of Sekororo in Tzaneen.
This follows the official opening of a Thusong Services Centre at Metz in Sekororo on Saturday.
The centre was officially opened by roads and transport MEC, Justice Pitso, who was welcomed like a king with loud cheers, ululation and dancing. The centre boasts police services, social development services, the South African Social Security Agency, the provincial treasury, the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Home Affairs, IEC offices and Umsombovu offices, among others.
The R3,2million project will assist residents to obtain marriage certificates, certified copies, social grants, identity documents, birth and death certificates, and tender documents. In the past, residents had to travel more than 100km to either Phalaborwa or Tzaneen for these services.
Pitso said the government of Limpopo has built 15 Thusong centres across the province since the dawn of democracy.
"The aim of this building was to change the lives of the people for the better," said Pitso to wild cheers from the residents.
He said the centres also provided jobs for the locals, especially the youth and women.
