ANC is not democratic

I am not active in politics but I know the ANC has been a good organisation.

I supported it because I understood the Freedom Charter an that convinced me to join many years ago.

I felt disappointed, after voting with much excitement in 1994, when the charter was not followed as closely as I had expected. After that I never wanted to vote again.

But I changed my mind and voted again, thinking I would give them another chance.

Much disrespect was shown but when the youth shouted former president Thabo Mbeki out of office, I could no longer take it.

It means we can vote someone in and others can shout him out like a child. We preach ubuntu but where's the respect?

Surely the ANC stalwarts would not have tolerated current events. Mbeki is not perfect but everyone is entitled to make mistakes. And then, those around him should correct him.

The ANC just cannot accept that those who are unhappy have a right to leave without being intimidated. Instead of respecting democracy, they lambast Cope.

If Cope is useless or are a bunch of confused people then guide them, don't call them names. But disrupting their meetings proves beyond doubt that ANC members are scared.

We are all Africans and need each other one way or another.
