Tears roll at service for truck crash victims

Riot Hlatshwayo

Tears rolled down Beatrice Mnisi's cheeks at the memorial service for her sister Adelaide and the other victims of an accident between two trucks in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, last week.

The 24 victims' families packed the Mapulaneng College hall for the service yesterday.

"She was my sister and still very young. Life will always be difficult without her," Beatrice said between sobs.

Transport MEC Jackson Mthembu told the mourners that the government wanted to stop trucks and open bakkies from transporting people.

Bushbuckridge's executive mayor Milton Morema promised to buy Christmas clothing for the children who were orphaned when their parents died in the accident.

A mass funeral for 21 of the victims will be held at the Bushbuckridge stadium on Sunday.
