The father of five said: "I had a problem with my cellphone and thought that I would not win.
"I was surprised when I was told that I have won. I am so happy. I will use the money to pay school fees for my two children who are in primary school."
The next winner of the Sowetan R5000 Christmas shopping prize will be announced next week.
