The National Association of School Governing Bodies is urging teachers, parents and pupils to vote for their committees.

Voting for SGBs will take place next June after the national elections.

NASGB regional secretary Reuben Lechesa said they believed that if people registered for the national elections they were more likely to vote in the SGB elections.

"We would like to call on all school governing bodies and school principals to make a conscious and concerted effort to encourage parents, staff members at schools and eligible learners to register or verify their registration details with the Independent Electoral Commission on the date to be announced," he said.

"In the past the participation of parents in the SGB electoral process was very low to the extent that election dates had to be postponed several times.

"Effective school governance and maximum parental participation in school affairs can help our committed school management teams and staff in creating an environment that is conducive to learning and teaching."
