During their raid at Fourways this week, the Johannesburg metro police, in a joint operation with the SAPS, impounded 47 illegal taxis and arrested 37 drivers on various charges that included driving without licences.

With the high number of taxi accidents on our roads caused by reckless drivers, traffic officials should actually inspect these vehicles regularly to ensure that passengers reach their destinations without fear.

Authorities must also be ruthless against negligent drivers who care less about the lives of their passengers - the very people who pay them to make a living.
