Over the past few weeks Sowetan has been giving away African cultural dolls to loyal readers to contribute to the battle against Westernised kiddies infotainment crazes.

As true as light follows darkness, socialising your tiny tots with traditional playthings can be a hard slog in this highly Westernised world of the Barbie and Bratz crazes.

But together with young entrepreneur Molemo Kgomo, Sowetan readers can access alternative socialisation tools.

She imports dark-coloured dolls. These are clothed by twowomen's groups with beadwork and traditional designs that are typically Zulu, Sotho, Tswana, Venda, Xhosa, Ndebele, Tsonga, Pedi and Swazi.

So far, the winner of the Zulu doll is Sidwell Khanya of Pretoria; Sotho doll, Mildred Moeti of Gauteng, and the Ndebele doll, Jacob Mathosa of Alexandra.
