ANC chicks come home to roost

Regarding the blows the Cope is getting from the ANC, the Alliance of Free Democrats can only say the chickens have come home to roost.

We have long complained about the ANC's penchant for disrupting our (AFD) meetings, intimidating our party agents and tearing down our posters. Our complaints fell on deaf ears. Even Mosiuoa Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa did not publicly chide these ANC thugs.

Before Cope's birth, its members showed no interest in the ANC's shenanigans against us. Now their erstwhile comrades are doing to them what they did to us. Should we gloat and say "poetic justice"? Of course not. Cope is good for South Africa.

The media's hands are not clean either. The ANC has suddenly discovered media bias. Long the beneficiary of the SABC's blanket coverage, it now berates it for giving Cope "undue" coverage. The ANC is right to complain: the SABC board is its stepchild. But it is not the sole media culprit. The AFD has invited the print and electronic media to many events, but to no avail.

Luthuli House is getting more coverage than the state. Now that Cope is chipping away at media-coverage hegemony, they cry foul. We hope to be forgiven for saying a plague upon all your houses.
