Omar Sandys, last year's leading black golfer on the order of merit, has been invited to take part in the Gary Player Invitational at the Links at Fancourt from November 27-30.

The Welkom-born Sandys said he was not at his best this year after his father's death early in January.

"My father's death got me down, but I'm recovering and looking forward to the game," he said.

"I've always played in this event, but the Fancourt is a tough course to play at.

"I've improved my game and I'm hitting the ball well, I'm determined to promote myself by playing extraordinarily good on the day."

He said he hit a bad patch this year and hopes that the event will go some way to bolstering his morale.

Sandys joins an illustrious field of present and past champions in this pro-celebrity charity tournament.

The organisers at this early stage have confirmed entries from various Sunshine and European Tour players, as well as stars from the LPGA Tour and Champions Tour and a mix of local and international celebrities.

Among the celebrities, football legends Kenny Dalglish and Lucas Radebe and super-model and actress Ines Sastre have confirmed their presence.
