Outspoken and controversial cultural activist Freddie Nyathela has lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, the Gauteng legislature, the Public Protector and Freedom of Expression Institute against the Gauteng department of arts, culture, sport and recreation.
Nyathela, who heads the Live Performance Industry Skills Development Association and South African Roadies Association, accused the authorities of denying him permission to ask questions at a recent public imbizo hosted by MEC Barbra Creecy and Minister of Arts and Culture Pallo Jordan.
Nyathela said he was invited to the event that took place on Saturday and where Creecy and Jordan were taking questions from artists on issues that affect them in the industry.
He said when it was his turn Gauteng provincial arts and culture chairman and master of ceremonies Jerry Mabuza reportedly snubbed him.
But Creecy vehemently denied that Nyathela was ever denied an opportunity to ask questions.
