Luhabe saga exposes the elite

The Wendy Luhabe saga exposes the ongoing state looting. It also explains why people, despite the ANC's reassurances and extending the olive branch, are intent on leaving the organisation.

Improving the lives of poor people through pro-poor policies and the assertiveness of the SACP and Cosatu has scared the Cope elitist group.

People are afraid that now that Thabo Mbeki can't protect them, they will be exposed for having looted state resources. Ministers became overnight multi-millionaires and billionaires.

The saga exposes the corrupt means through which elite groups have acquired instant wealth. This is the same group that once made crass statements such as "I did not struggle to be poor".

The trade and industry minister should break ties with Luhabe. All loans given to her and her IDC-funded companies should be repaid immediately. An investigation should be conducted into how she benefited from BEE transactions. Irregularities should be referred to law enforcement agencies for criminal prosecution. That she excused herself from deliberations about her corrupt deals is not enough.

Opposition parties should say if they only oppose ANC irregularities and not Cope's. ANC members and supporters, reject the bourgeoisie.
