Former state president Thabo Mbeki will get some 30 minutes to address the Supreme Court of Appeal on why he must be allowed as a party in the state's Jacob Zuma appeal hearing.
The Supreme Court of Appeal decided yesterday that Mbeki's application would be heard simultaneously with the appeal of the national director of public prosecutions next Friday.
The court said Mbeki and the government should file their heads of argument without delay on both the procedural aspects as well as on the merits of the intervention.
Last Friday Mbeki asked to be added as intervening party to the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) appeal hearing at the Supreme Court of Appeal
This followed the failure of Mbeki's bid to have the ruling of Judge Chris Nicholson revoked in the Constitutional Court.
The Constitutional Court dismissed his application, saying it was "not in the interests of justice" to hear it at this stage.
The NPA is appealing against a Durban high court judgment that invalidated charges against ANC president Jacob Zuma.
Nicholson granted the state leave to appeal his September 12 judgment.
Mbeki is challenging Nicholson's judgment which inferred he politically meddled in the NPA's probe against Zuma.
